Homebuyer Readiness is for anyone who may be interested in owning a home

ST. PETERS, Mo. (June 11, 2026) – Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County is hosting a one-day free Homebuyer Readiness class on Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 3757 Harry S. Truman Blvd., in St. Charles. The class offers financial coaching skills to assist anyone who is interested in learning how to independently navigate the traditional process of buying a home.

Habitat’s annual Homebuyer Readiness community outreach is not affiliated with the nonprofit’s time-honored homeownership program, which provides a “hand up” opportunity by partnering with local individuals and families to specifically build and buy a Habitat home.

The class will provide resources and activities to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound (SMART) goals and community experts will be on hand to help potential homeowners create action plans. The one-day class will assist participants to gain an overall understanding on ways to improve their credit and financial obligations to set a path toward obtaining preapproval for a mortgage. “Homeownership begins with knowledge and financial stability,” said Michelle Woods, executive director, Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County. “The free Homebuyer Readiness class offers area individuals and families the opportunity to learn how to get their finances in shape to open the door toward owning a home.”
